Characteristics |
Very similar to Piper obliquum, with enclosed petioles and ants in the petioles. Asymmetrical leaf on petiole, lustrous green with sometimes whitish spots. Stem is red and has wings (not as pronounced as Piper Mano de León wings) forming ridges that have blondish hairs. Ants in this species are only on the hole the new leaf leaves in the petiole (wings have hollow stems with chambers for ants), living inside of the hollow stem. |
