Rearing results and development times

As of May 2003, N=20: 13 eclosed, 4 were parasitized, 3 died.
Time as pupa: 6-9 (N=7) and 12-15 (N=5) days.

Observations and comments

The caterpillars often rest off of their host plant on nearby foliage. Early instars will drop on a thread when disturbed and later instars will jump off of the plant.
Like some of the Gonodonta sp. that also occurr on Cissampelos, Oraesia is parasitized by a braconid that emerges from the cateripillar almost always as a solitary individual. The braconid then typically pupates in the space between the A8 and A10 prolegs at the very rear of the caterpillar (See Other Images)
